Help on Managing Money
« on: January 02, 2015, 02:50:34 PM »
I really need help on managing money, making it spread across the monthly bills and having some to save. We struggle to make money stretch. We get paid weekly from my partners job and four weekly (on two different weeks!) from tax credits and child benefit. As money doesn't come in on the first of the month as a lump sum, I struggle to manage it all.

This is not going to be easy at first!

OK the first thing that you need to do is get a notebook and write down everything that you spend your money on. So keep the notebook with you and every time you make a purchase write it down!! Do this every day. You might want to take a look at a blog post where I wrote about this: http://www.johnnydebt.co.uk/debt/write-daily-spend/

It is also a good idea to make a budget, I have seen a good one here: http://diy-debt.co.uk/budget-planner/ although it is not free it does have some very useful aspects to it. You could also do an Internet search for a free budget planner.

Once you have got your planner, fill it out honestly!! This way you will see where your money is going and also where you will be able to save money.

Participating in the forum is one of the things we should do.
