If you you feel you are being harassed by a debt collection agent (DCA), or if you feel that they are acting unlawfully, check to see if they are a member of the Credit Services Association (CSA).

The CSA is not a regulatory body and I am unaware of how effective they can be in dealing with a compaint against a DCA but they may have some clout in bringing them into line as members have to adhere to a strict code of conduct laid down by the CSA.

I would assume that if a complaint is to have effect then it would be because a DCA would value their membership with the CSA.

Click on the link below and explore the website thoroughly especially the code of practice and complaints procedure.

To anyone out there who has debt challenges keep your chin up you will get through it. Good luck

Hello Gary,

When I was chased by debt collectors, they try all tricks to attempt to obtain money from you, even if you can not afford it.

Weekends were the most trying for me. Saturdays and Sundays, mainly evening telephone calls.

If I did pluck up the courage to answer the phone. The sharp toungue at the end of the phone pushed me to the limit - if I hadn't have had the support and guidance of those in a similar situation, I honestly believe I would't be here today.

Most of the debt agencies took funds I could ill afford - infact the moajority of the time it was money for food that they took.

I am pleased that there is a process in place. Wea re all so very British and never seem to complain. I learnt very quickly, if you do not complain, then put up with what they are doing. It is all about choice in this world.

Here, here to sites like this helping people see the true picture out in this world.

I believe that you could also look into an IVA if the debt becomes that unmanageable and then you get to avoid the creditors and debt collectors except that an ISA stays on your credit history for I believe 6 years if I remember that correctly. Or debt consolidation is also another option to get out of your financial trouble. It is a trade off with every option though.  Thought some info on that would be useful too!
