Hi. Just found this site; lots of interesting info on here. Nice one!

I've been getting similar letters for the last few years .. they seem to come from a sequence of companies, with a more threatening message each couple of months, solicitors, debt collectors, etc, then a pause, then they start again... It's actually got slightly entertaining to see which one I get next.

The debt dates from at least 1996, maybe a bit earlier, and we had an Abbey joint bank account & personal loan, just under £2000 on each at the end. Due to financial and family difficulties, and cascading bank charges, we ended up not being able to afford to pay them. They took us to court over one of the debts, obtained a CCJ, and I paid it off at the agreed rate over about four years, even after the marraige failed soon after and we divorced. I wondered at the time about the other, but things being as they were wasn't going to rock the boat. Then suddenly, in 2002, I get a letter out of the blue about the other amount. (I wasn't hiding from Abbey, as they had my current address on the mortgage account..) I looked things up,

I looked things up at the time, and found that debts where they have had no contact for over six years are effectively unenforceable - I'm assuming this is still the case, as I've heard nothing but these occasional letters from them, but is there a way to get them to stop with the letters??

It was long enough ago now that neither debt, nor even the CCJ, appears on my credit record any more!

Cheers!

Rob.

After a few letters you can tell just by looking at the envelope
whats inside.

All mine came from parking fines (not looking at where I
parked).

And I even got some for someone who had the same name as
me and his mum’s name was the same as my mum, and It was
for a car that was the same make, model and colour as mine!!

I learnt a lot from this experience, and have a great story!

Regards,
Dwayne

Hi Johnny, thanks for the link. I'll probably do what it says in there. Having checked my file, I already wrote to them two years ago (marked without prejudice) denying I owed anything, as I'd not been contacted for eight years by then, but they obviously took no notice. I'll try again using the legalese wording :-)

Dwayne... it happens! A long time back, after a move, I left a message for a friend Glynn on his answering machne with my new number. He misheard maybe, so misdialed, and told the stranger who answered "Hi, it's Glynn, is Rob there?" and was passed over to a Rob who had a friend Glynn!! Apparently it took a while for them to work out what was wrong..

Obviously it's more of problem where fines are involved... I hope you got those sorted!

Hey Rob

The parking tickets were my fault and I sorted them with lovely
money.

The issue with the other Dwayne was and a long ‘back and forth’
with the company who traced the debt to me.

They ended up sending a bailiff who came to my house in hope
of taking goods, and we sorted it by checking my passport
against the one on file.

Short story of course.

Regards,
Dwayne
